FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction is a hair transplant process that replaces lost or thinning hair by taking healthy follicles from a donor area of the head (usually the back and sides) and transplanting them to a thinning area of the head, such as the hairline or crown.
It is the most advanced and minimum invasive hair restoration option due to less scarring and giving better results than other hair transplant methods.
The procedure is generally requested by patients who suffer from thinning hair or balding, but who still have enough hair to use for the transplant.
Indications for FUE hair transplantation:
In some cases, it can be used according to the personal wishes of the patient, even in the absence of medical problems, for example, to give additional volume to the hairstyle.
In other cases, which are much more common, FUE is used as an effective method for the treatment of objectively expressed baldness of varying severity. The procedure helps to cope with hair loss due to various reasons. Hair transplantation is effective in both men and women.
FUE transplantation can be performed not only on the scalp. The technique also allows you to increase the number of rod hair in the area of the eyebrows, chin and orofacial zone (gives volume to the mustache and beard).
Advantages of the FUE method:
In FUE hair transplants, there is minimal bleeding, and recovery is usually complete within seven days with almost no side effects. One of the things that you need is healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head, to serve as a donor area for follicles to be harvested from. Other factors, such as hair color, texture, and waviness or curliness, may also affect the cosmetic result.
FUE is a minimally invasive hair surgery procedure that is administered under local anesthetic, pain is minimized, and most patients do not feel anything at all. You will be conscious for the entire time that the hair transplant procedure is administered.
There will be some mild discomfort during the recovery process, but this only lasts around seven days. The risk of complications because of FUE is also extremely low.
Preparation:
No special preparation is required. However, FUE hair transplantation is a medical procedure. Therefore, before starting the procedure, the patient must be examined by a doctor. The specialist first of all discusses the desired result, and also excludes possible contraindications when hair transplantation is not recommended. These are mental disorders, skin diseases in the active stage, acute infectious and inflammatory processes, diabetes mellitus without the proper level of decompensation, reduced or increased rate of blood clotting.
How will the procedure go?
The transplant procedure can be performed in sessions following one after another or every other day. During each session, 1500-4500 follicular units can be removed, in other words, 3000-10000 hair transplants can be performed during 1 session. There is no need to wait between sessions, as is the case with classical hair transplant methods. In addition, there is no loss of sensitivity, bleeding and scarring of wounds in the donor area, and there is no need for suturing.
Within 1 week, complete healing of small holes in the area of removal of follicular units occurs without any traces. Faster healing of the donor area is due to the fact that the removal of a strip of skin with hair follicles is not performed on the back of the head.
