Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or Ear Surgery, is a plastic surgery aimed at  correcting deformities of the auricles.

Indications for Otoplasty:

• Protruding ears;
• Deformation of the auricle after accidents;
• Congenital deformities of the auricle;
• Earlobe correction;

Preparing for the operation:

• Before the operation, it is necessary to have a personal consultation with a plastic surgeon. After a comprehensive discussion with the patient of the future operation, the surgeon will determine its order and conduct a detailed briefing.
• The operation is performed under local anesthesia or in analgosedation, therefore, it is necessary to undergo a preoperative examination and pass tests. You can take all the tests and undergo an examination in ourhospital 1 day before the operation. But, it must be borne in mind that if the test results do not correspond to the norm, the operation will be postponed.
• 3 weeks before the operation it is necessary to stop taking blood-thinning drugs (Acylpyrin, Anopyrin, Aspirin, Alnagon, Mironal or other medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid).
• 2-3 weeks prior to surgery, the client must not have experienced any acute or inflammatory disease, and must not have any skin disease. Smokers need to limit smoking, as smoking greatly slows down recovery processes.
• You must come to the operation on an empty stomach, ie. 6 hours before the operation you can not drink, eat, smoke. Also, it is recommended to wash your hair and do not apply makeup on your face.
• After the operation, the patient stays in the hospital for 1 night (if the operation was performed under analgesic sedation).

Rehabilitation Period:

• Within 7 – 10 days it is necessary to observe a sparing regimen and take prescribed medications (antibiotics, drugs to reduce swelling, etc.).
• On the second day after the operation, a follow-up examination is carried out.
• The first two days you may feel pain in the area of the auricles (in adult patients, the pain is quite pronounced).
• Take pain medication.
• It is recommended to sleep with your head up.
• After 7-10 days you can remove the elastic bandage and wash your hair.
• The removal of the elastic bandage takes place in the hospital at a prearranged time.
• Sutures are absorbable, there is no need to remove them.
• For the next 7 days, it is recommended to wear an elastic bandage or scarf at night (to fix the auricle in a new position).
• A few months after the operation, there may be a decrease in the sensitivity of the auricles, therefore, in winter, it is necessary to protect the ears from the cold.
• Active physical activity is allowed no earlier than five to six weeks after the operation.
• A visit to the sauna or solarium is possible after 2-3 months.
• Recovery processes are very individual. As a rule, stabilization of scars lasts for three months.
